Welcome to Literary Sea

It’s snowing in April right now, my TBR list is the size of Mount Everest, and my work-in-progress novel is very much so in progress. So obviously, I’ve decided this is the perfect time to start a blog! (And now I wonder if this mindset is what led me to add twelve more books to my already overflowing bookshelves…)

Now onto that blog I mentioned.

First of all, I want to thank each and every person whose eyeballs have graced this page. Literary Sea is a place for bookworms, aspiring writers, and intellectuals alike. I plan to share book reviews, recommendations, and all sorts of literature and life themed content as well as posts geared towards writing from the point of view of an aspiring writer.

Speaking of an aspiring writer—you guessed it. It’s me. Surprise, I know. I wanted to open up my blog with…

A quick introduction of yours truly.

My name is Jeanine and I’m 18. Newly 18. Okay to be completely transparent, I’m a barely-part-time-adult-who-still-feels-about-twelve. I am a native Pennsylvanian, but as I’m also allergic to the cold (note my displeasure at the aforementioned snow in April), I will be moving ten hours south for college (note my extreme pleasure at the lack of snow in April in South Carolina).

Traveling is a major passion of mine; actually, my favorite English word is “wanderlust”. So far, I’ve seen a good part of the United States and I’ve also been to France. This summer I’ll be visiting Italy and France for a few weeks so I’ll likely include a post about that experience. Languages fascinate me. I’m an English grammar fanatic (although I am not above a typo or two) and have studied French intensively while dabbling in other languages.

More importantly than all that…

I’m a complete and total bookworm. My favorite genre is YA Fantasy although I also enjoy contemporaries, historical fiction, and other genres on occasion. Some of my favorite authors include Sarah J Maas, Cassandra Clare, Maggie Stiefvater, J.K. Rowling, and a dozen others I will spare you from. I am obsessively in love with the A Court of Thorns and Roses and Throne of Glass series (so expect plenty of references to those).

Bookstagram was my first outlet in the bookish community; I created @literary_sea last October and have gotten to know some incredible people through that. As far as my own writing, I am currently 70,000 words into the first draft of a YA Fantasy novel that I like to call The Darkest Minds (Alexandra Bracken) meets Throne of Glass (SJM). I will be revealing more and chronicling the writing process in later posts.

Thank you so much for surviving my first post.

Stay tuned for future posts where I’ll discuss specific books, elements of literature, interview individuals in the bookish community, and likely make a ridiculous amount of bad puns.

  1. Oh gosh I am completely in love with SJM books! Would love to see the references here and there because I’m obsessed with ACOTAR too even more so than TOG. It was no love at first sight since ACOWAR was what did it and Heir of Fire on TOG. Also, Cassie Clare is another auto-read for me ❤

Love your introduction of yourself as 'a barely-part-time-adult-who-still-feels-about-twelve' btw, because I could totally relate. Adulting is hard. It is so nice to meet you Jeanine! Happy blogging ^^

      1. I completely agree with you!! ACOMAF and Heir of Fire were complete turning points in those series. I loved them before that point, but they were absolutely my favorite series after that. I love all the Shadowhunter books! Clare certainly knows how to write expansive series.
Haha, yes I’ve certainly found that to be true. It’s nice to meet you too!
